Project Director

Paris, France - Permanent, Full-Time

Job description

As Project Director, you drive Epyr's industrial deployment: 2 to 4 TES projects in parallel, from the investment decision to handover to Operations. You are accountable for their economic, contractual and schedule performance, and you are the counterpart of the management of our clients' industrial sites.

On each project, an engineering project manager carries the technical side and on-site execution. The dividing line is clear: they decide what commits the technical solution, you decide what commits Epyr.

You also work upstream, supporting the Go-To-Market team, and downstream, contributing to the design of the next units and to the fleet operations strategy.

The role is based in Paris, with 4 to 6 days a month on project sites in France.

Why join Epyr's Industrialization team

  • Impact. Making decarbonized industrial heat cost-competitive is what will drive deployment at scale. Your projects take this solution from pilot unit to fleet.

  • A portfolio to build. Epyr is moving from one unit to several: project management standards, contract templates, cost structure and supplier framework agreements are yours to set.

  • Real ownership. Authority over the budget envelope, the master schedule and trade-offs between projects, with direct access to the founders.

  • Physical results. Your projects become industrial units delivering steam to real factories.

  • Scale-up momentum. A €15M Series A (July 2026) funds industrialization and the ambition of a fleet of units in France and Europe.

  • A small, senior team. Fast decisions, and a culture that values rigor and pragmatism over process.

Scope & responsibilities

1) Lead a portfolio of deployment projects

  • Take responsibility for 2 to 4 TES projects at different stages: development, construction, commissioning.

  • Maintain the master schedule of each project and manage interdependencies between projects: teams, lifting, shared suppliers, client shutdown windows.

  • Arbitrate the allocation of scarce resources between projects.

  • Manage risks and reporting to the executive committee: progress, deviations, decisions to be made.

2) Own the economic and contractual commitment

  • Be accountable for the budget and margin at completion of each project.

  • Lead the procurement strategy: work packaging, tenders, contract negotiation and supplier framework agreements.

  • Secure client contracts: milestones, penalties, acceptance, performance guarantees, scope limits.

  • Manage change orders, claims and disputes, with support from legal.

  • Feed project financing and grant applications.

3) Lead and grow the project team

  • Manage the engineering project managers and site supervisors assigned to your projects.

  • Industrialize the way Epyr runs projects: templates, milestone reviews, systematic lessons learned.

  • Recruit the project team as the portfolio grows.

4) Act as the management-level interface with clients and partners

  • Be the counterpart of the client's site management and technical management, including on sensitive topics: milestone delays, production shutdowns, incidents, performance gaps.

  • Coordinate external partners: engineering firms, owner's engineers, grid operator, inspection bodies, insurers.

  • Support the Go-To-Market team upstream: feasibility, costing, scheduling and review of contractual commitments before signature, so that what is sold can be delivered.

5) Contribute to the product and the operations strategy

  • Bring the delivery perspective to design reviews: installed cost, constructability, maintainability.

  • Feed lessons learned from construction sites and operations into Epyr's product standards.

  • Contribute to defining the fleet operating model and maintenance strategy, with the Operations and Energy teams.

  • Ensure continuity between the project and operations: document handover, team training, warranty period.

Career path

  • Months 0 to 12: you take charge of ongoing projects and set Epyr's project management standards.

  • Months 12 to 24: you build the project team and develop engineers towards full project responsibility.

  • Beyond: the role is meant to evolve towards head of deployment, including the first projects outside France.

Profile

Must-have

  • Engineering degree or equivalent (Master's level), with at least 6 years in industrial project management, including several projects run in parallel.

  • Projects worth several million euros delivered with full responsibility for budget, schedule and performance commitments.

  • Construction and commissioning on operating industrial sites.

  • Strong contractual practice: works and supply contracts, change orders, claims.

  • Technical knowledge in at least one of the following: steam networks, energy systems, ducting, power electrical systems.

  • Managing engineers and site teams.

  • Professional proficiency in French and English.

  • Assets: operation and maintenance of industrial assets, ICPE and pressure equipment, project finance, first-of-a-kind technology.

Soft skills

  • Strong sense of ownership, carried through to the economic result of the project.

  • Big-picture view: knowing at all times where the risk lies and what deserves your presence.

  • Authority and teaching skills: you grow project managers, you do not do the work for them.

  • Pragmatism: trading off cost, time and scope based on incomplete information.

  • As comfortable with the management of an industrial site as with a team leader on the construction site.

  • Keen to build standards rather than inherit them.

Practical details

  • Location: Paris, with 4 to 6 days a month on project sites in France, more during critical phases.

  • Team: Industrialization, working closely with the Go-to-Market and Energy teams.

  • Contract: permanent, full-time, executive status.

  • Start date: Q1 2027.

  • Languages: French and English.

  • Compensation: competitive, with a variable component linked to project delivery.
